In her own epic exploration of cities via the medium of film, prolific multimedia artist Sarah Morris has always been conscious of Homer’s fearless voyager. The Odyssey is not simply the story of encounters with new places, but also with their powerful, secret and specific identities. From her films and her own experiences, Morris has extracted an imagery that encapsulates the codes and labyrinths of destinations which enchant the traveller. This particular series follows the artist’s film Abu Dhabi (2018), which was commissioned for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi’s permanent collection. Odysseus Factor was also the title of the artist’s major solo exhibition at UCCA in Beijing, China, in 2018, which presented the artist’s full filmic output for the first time.
